Muir Energy was born on the John Muir Trail and evolved out of my nutritional needs as an ultra distance hiker.
Like many health-conscious endurance athletes, I struggled to find the right nutrition to keep me going while pushing my body to its limits. My jaws tired of chewing raw nuts and dehydrated fruit.Most food bars are dry, heavy and not very healthy.
Most energy gels have poor nutrition profiles, making them unsuitable for endurance activities; they are also sweet and synthetic tasting, and contain ominous sounding ingredients.
I wanted simple food that was flavourful, calorically and nutritionally dense, and made exclusively with real ingredients. No junk.
I also wanted something I could eat straight, add to my oatmeal or soup, or spread on a cracker. Surprisingly, there weren't any products on the market that met all these criteria. So I decided to make it myself.
